Matchlessantiques is offering smiths and collectors this vintage Rockwell 20 Inch Drill Press. I don't know a lot about drills, but I think this one is from the late 1800s. The Drill Press is one of the nicer, clean, complete, running drills you'll find this size (all 800 lb. worth). I am not sure if the electric motor and pulley set up is original or not. The drill runs changes speeds and operates without any issues. The belts may need replacing when put under heavy use. You can change the spindle speed by moving the belt one of 4 different size pulleys. Then there's a reduction "granny" gear that drastically changes the speed. (see video). All together the drill has 8 different speeds. The auto "power" advance works as is should and has two speeds (two different size pulleys). You can run the quill up and down manually or with the feed lever, which you can lock into place at any level. The table support arm can be raised or lowered on the column and locked into place (the crank handle if there was one is gone). The table can turn (rotate) or be locked into place. The main bearings are babbitt and in very good condition. The Wagner electric motor runs on 110v. and is 1.5 hp, 1750 rpm. The Jacobs chuck is an 18N 1/8" 1 3/4" with the original key. It also comes with a morse taper drift key. Please take a close look at the pictures. NOTE: This auction is for the Rockwell 20" Drill Press ONLY. The other tools displayed in the background are NOT INCLUDED in this auction. To learn more about camelback drills, click on this link.
