Artisan Stone Workers know this is IT. Removed from the original Texaco Building in downtown LA during it's conversion to the Ace Hotel some years ago. The building was completed in 1927 so the stone is 90 years old at least. Carrera this age presents much differently than Carrera today. Cut from the top of the quarry it was subject to thousands less tons of pressure than stone below. Which is where today's Carrera comes from, by comparison inconsistent and immature. But this marble is magical. It absorbs the light and appears lustrous and translucent given it's molecular structure. The veining can be extremely sharp with radical striking. Very different and very beautiful. If you are building to a high standard you NEED TO SEE THIS. And then the story. In 1927 UA was owned by Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. And then we have the Texaco Building.  Here they set up shop and it became known as the United Artists Building. They built the 3-story UA theatre here with lots of premieres and the lobby walls and baths were covered in this stone. Who mingled here can you imagine?  This marble is a legitimate historical artifact. We have approximately 9 slabs @ 5' x 5', 1 @ 5' x 6', 4 @ 2' x 6' to 8', and many trim pieces.  Everything  3/4"--7/8"--1" thick.  Almost all slabs are finished both sides---they were bath stall partitions. About 350-400 sf remaining.  Marble of this quality can only be found from a salvage source.  It would never be found a stone yard today. $48 square foot Lavatory sinks shown from this same building provide a sense of the setting.  Furniture pieces built from this product are also shown.  We can design and build mostly anything to your specifications.
