Merrimac Valley Textile Museum deaccession. Offered for auction is a printing block depicting a textile machine manufactured by the Davis & Furber Company of North Andover Massachusetts. The plate measures about 5 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches. The machine has the Davis & Furber name as well as a Jan 24 1888 patent date. Between the printing surface is stamped "Bay State Boston" and a name engraved in the plate is probably that of the engraver. It appears to be copper over a thicker base metal mounted to a hardwood backing block.  Davis & Furber was one of America's premier industrial revolution power house companies manufacturing textile and other machinery for mills in New England and beyond.  An attractive and historic piece representing much hand finishing. Companies invested much money in the manufacture of these plates to ensure an accurate representation of their product which would hopefully generate profitable sales. Thank you for looking and please feel free to ask questions.
