Antique, hand-wrought leather iron. MINNEAPOLIS IRON STORE MISCO. Solid steel and heavy (think anvil). Very unique, one of a kind. I would rate the condition as outstanding (not a technical term) considering this is a used tool over 100 years old. No notable defects. Displays exceptionally well. 6-1/8" long. Handle: 1-1/4" dia. Face: 2-3/8"w x 1-1/4" h.   In it's day, The MINNEAPOLIS IRON STORE CO. was a large retailer and wholesaler. MISCO sold everything from heavy hardware and wagon maker tools, to automobile parts and blacksmith supplies. They also manufactured such things as harrows, sleds, wagon wood stock and automobile springs. The name MISCO was synonymous with satisfactory service. "This service has won the patronage of blacksmiths, woodworkers, carriage and automobile repair men and every user of iron and steel in large quantities in the Northwest." The former Minneapolis Iron Store Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing member of the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District.   This iron was acquired directly from J.R. Sikes Company. Sikes was a historic leather manufacturer in Minneapolis dating back to the 1800's. In the early days they were a gateway to the western frontier, supplying leather products to many US retailers, including their neighbor, MINNEAPOLIS IRON STORE. Back then, leather was used in everything from belting on motors and implements, to clothing and everyday household items. It was very prevalent, and products sold by MISCO were stamped with THIS VERY IRON. Sikes leather closed in 2011 due to the current owner entering retirement. Walking into the shop itself was like stepping back in time. Much of the machinery was antique and primitive, some even medieval looking, and much of it was still being used. I purchased a large cabinet containing modern cutting dies and a few of these old irons were found buried in the back. As for pricing this, I'm relying solely on my experience as a collector/seller because there is not a previous sales history for this. Nothing even similar. This is highly specialized and one of a kind. Feel free to email any questions. Payment due in 7 days. Paypal and mailed payments accepted. Checks must clear before shipping. Pick-up is available. Shipping is free in the cont'l US and includes tracking. International bidders please contact for your discounted S&H amount. Thanks for looking!
