How about a brand new floor closer in a used box...LOL....all of it is new and unused but the poor old box has done it's job protecting the contents. I can't find any info about this floor closer at all. Anything I did find around this same time period had the company corbin with russwin on just about everything. I've sold many items by both and this one does not have corbin on it. It has russwin No. 20. The box actually calls it a checking floor hinge. One of the pictures shows it in a vise and I have turned as far as it will go and it goes in both directions. It's not easy to push that arm back either and even harder to hold it there. When you release it, it slowly returns to it's center position. Seems to work perfect. There was no directions in the box, one would assume those who install these can figure it out without directions. Looking at the new modern ones I'd say heavy duty is probably an understatement for this thing. Of course size then didn't always mean stronger or more heavy duty but just look at this thing, what door couldn't it handle. Without the directions and not being able to find another one, I can only assume all the hardware is there needed to install it. Rare piece of hardware that's for sure. Check out the hand written price on the front of the box, $19.00 in 1914 or around that time. That was a lot of money in 1914 to spend on a door closer or any piece of hardware. Not much else I can tell you about it, let me know if you have any questions. Check out my other listings of hardware from this estate sale.
Box is in rough condition.
