ANTIQUE, RECLAIMED Heart Pine Character Grade Flooring This listing is for one square foot of milled random width, random length, minimum 3/4" thick, heart pine. If you are just looking for a sample for a larger project, please contact us directly and we will gladly send you one free of charge. Please note there is a 500 square foot minimum for orders. We offer two types of heartpine flooring: original, walked upon “yellow pine flooring” removed from an 1800’s log home and resawn heart pine cut from antique heart pine timbers.  Heartpine is a beautiful floor with amber color variations.  Heartpine refers to the fact that the wood was cut from the “heart of the tree”.  Heartpine comes in several grades, ranging from select which is a very crisp, clean floor well suited for formal settings to a cabin grade which is a very rustic floor.  The specifications in determining the type of floor are determined by things such as what percentage of the floor has a tight growth ring pattern, what size and how many knots there are, the presence of nail holes, etc.  In a select grade floor, there will be few signs of aging or distress while in a cabin grade floor there will be many signs of distress.  We offer several categories in between as well. Specifications Species: Heart Pine Width: 2-11" Length: 2-10 Thickness: 3/4" While no two reclaimed floors are alike, there are several factors that do effect the end look of a reclaimed floor. We offer a range of services from what we call “raw” to a fully milled and ready to install floor. We do not, however, offer pre-finished or engineered floors. “Raw” flooring is original flooring, either from a house or barn, that is being sold exactly as it was removed from the building (broken tongues, dirt, bird poop and all). Milled floors are all planed to a uniform thickness (from the bottom of the board, so the tops have their original faces), the old tongue and grooves are removed and a new one is put on (or they are “straight-edged”) and the boards are kiln dried. The tops of the boards can be left original, planed or skip-planed. Planing is a less primitive, yet beautiful, finish that will take the board to an even thickness and remove the inconsistencies in the antique boards, yet leave the rich, vibrant patina of the wood. Skip-planing is a process by which only the high spots are taken out of a board. The planer blades “kiss” the top of board, removing high spots to create a more level board, but leaving the original character (namely saw marks) in the lower spots. Skip planing is a very popular option for an easy to lay, flat even board with an undeniable antique look. Please Note: Pictures are representations of raw material through finished product. Price reflects raw material price. However, we offer a full range of services from raw material to ready to install. We also sell reclaimed siding, beams, antique structures (log cabins and timber framed barns), and architectural pieces.
