Antique Stephen’s Patented Vise 1864 Two Inch

US $88

This little beauty is the Baby Wilton of the 1860’s.  It has 2” jaws and a throat that also is 2” in length.  I have had a number of these through the years but I have never had one of this size or with this type of swivel base.  The unusual part is that it overhangs the workbench rather than sitting directly on the bench.  There’s a thumb screw on the bottom which tightens or loosens the vise which also turns a complete 360 degrees.  If  you’re not familiar with this gem, the movable jaw is spring loaded.  You open it up, put in your work piece, let it slam shut and then pull the tightening arm to draw it up firm to the other jaw.  Works perfectly.  Rare and unusual.  The movable arm is stamped Stephen’s although very faintly.  Looks like:  Apr. 5, 64, Mar. of 68 and Oct. of 69.  Please don’t hesitate to ask questions and see my other tool auctions.
