This is a beautifully restored Gerstner and Sons 11 drawer machinist chest. It took quite a while to do the refurb, as the chest was pretty beat up when I bought it, but the results speak for themselves. The chest has new Gerstner felt applied with Gerstner Whew Glue, same as the original construction. The oak frame, lid, and drawer fronts are finished with 3 coats of hand-rubbed lacquer, same as the original. The hardware is all original as far as I know except for the handle (it was beyond repair), the finger pull on the front panel, and a few screws. All original metal hardware has been carefully restored to the extent possible. Some still have imperfections due to wear or corrosion, but they have been cleaned, polished, and buffed as you can see in the photos. I've tried to keep the chest as original as possible, so I spent the time restoring the hardware rather than simply replacing it. The inside of the drawers and the sides of the drawers have been stained the same color as the chest and have multiple coats of tung oil finish applied to protect the wood and minimize staining. This chest turned out so well that my wife wants to keep it and use it as her jewelry box, but I'll refurb another one for her. The chest does not have a key, but the lock # is A50M37, and Gerstner sells replacement keys for $15. I had to use wood putty to repair several nicks and worn spots in the wood, mostly on the bottom, but I kept several smaller ones on the sides and back because they add to the vintage character. The handle and the round pull on the front panel were damaged beyond repair so I replaced them, but otherwise the rest of the hardware is original as far as I know.
