This auction is for 8+ Bielefelder hatching eggs. I usually send 12 eggs, though the exact number depends on how well my hens lay during the days I collect eggs for this auction. The eggs come from 7 hens and 2 roosters for good genetic diversity. A note about fertility: breeding chickens is not like dogs/cats/horses. When you breed those animals you know when it happens. With chickens, there is no guarantee of fertility. I do my best to provide the right conditions- plenty of space, quality food, fresh water, good male/female ratio- but the rest is up to the chickens. Not all eggs are created to hatch, even when fertilized. I have had buyers with terrific hatch rates…and those who have had none. Please be aware of this when you buy hatching eggs. Prompt payment is appreciated, as I count on your paying at the close of the auction so I can ship the freshest eggs. Please remember that these are live animals, so there may be delays in shipping from time to time. I have researched shipping eggs because I want them not only to arrive without being broken, I also want them to be transported with the least jarring so you get the best hatch rates. While I cannot guarantee the hatch rate on my eggs, I do guarantee them against breakage in transit. Should you have the rare broken eggs, please do not remove anything from the box until you have taken a photo of the broken egg in its packaging and surrounded by the other eggs. Then e-mail me the photo by the end of the day you received the eggs and I will refund you the amount for what was broken. To get the best hatch, place the eggs small end down in an egg carton in a cool place (not the refrigerator), and let them settle for several hours before placing them in the incubator. Don’t wait more than a day to start them; eggs are viable for several days from lay, but the older the egg is the less chance it has of hatching, so start them shortly after their arrival for best results. My birds came from a breeder who purchased his birds from Greenfire; my birds are first generation birds from his breeding group, so technically they are still Greenfire birds. I originally had 9 hens and 7 roosters, and chose the best of the roosters for my breeding pen. My hope is that you get exceptional stock from the eggs you hatch. Bielefelders lay large, dark brown eggs (my hens are still pullets, and their eggs are not full size yet). The eggs can be as dark as Barnevelder or Welsummer eggs. They are gentle giants, and are among my favorite birds for temperament. I have not had one mean rooster out of the seven I raised, and am very pleased with my breeding roos. I can handle their hens without any concern that they will interfere, and my children are never bothered by them. My Bielefelder group is fed non-gmo grains and forages in a large (50 X 30) enclosed yard for their safety and to maintain purity and fertility. Best of success with your hatching!
