This vise is a big heavy duty industrial grade two-piece Milling Machine Vise, likely used in factories, machine shops, welding shops, forges and auto shops to clamp heavy metal objects, likely steel plates and steel beams. We bought this vise as part of a large machine shop tool lot. While we use many vises in our shops and labs and collect rare and unusual vises (up to about 15 lbs, so if you have any collectible vises to sell, please email us), this big, heavy vise is out of our league, so we are selling it. One big advantage of this heavy-duty versatile 2-piece vise is that you can place the two jaws at any distance from each other from flush to each other to more than a dozen feet apart, depending on the work you want to hold. Just bolt the two parts to whatever surface you want it to be on. And change its position as your needs for it changes. The vise clamping part is 8-1/4" deep when opened as shown, with two bolt mounting slots, each 3/4" wide, 2-1/8" long. The clamping part opens 1/2" maximum, limited by the length of the two 1/2" dia. steel guide bolts. With the guide bolts replaced by longer guide bolts, max opening is likely much greater than 1/2" (we do not know and have not tested what the max opening is with other guide bolts or no guide bolts). The steel cylinder in the middle that pushes this jaw is a relatively massive 2-1/8" dia. We believe that this vise can clamp objects with several tons of force, if required. The drive end of the worm screw bolt is 1/2" square. The jaw action is so clean and smooth that we can turn the worm screw with just our fingers. Above and in front of the drive end is a grease fitting. The clamping part's jaw is 8" x 3-1/4" x 7/16" thick steel, smooth, bolted on by two countersunk screws. Weight is 27+ lbs. The vise receiving part is 5" deep, with two bolt mounting slots, each 3/4" wide, 2-1/8" long. The receiving part's jaw is 8" x 3-1/4" x 7/16" thick steel, smooth, bolted on by two countersunk screws. Weight is 14-1/2 lbs. Great for the serious vise user or vise collector / tool collector.
