BLM International Ltd. developed an electronic device (called the BLM 2000) that is designed to reduce microbial growth in beer dispense lines by transmitting low-frequency signals into the dispense line. These low-frequency signals are in the audible frequency range and consist of varying frequencies and harmonics and are transmitted into the beer line carrying the draft beer. The electronic signal travels the length of the beer line using the medium of the fluid therein as the signal conductor. The electronic signal retards the biofilm growth of yeast and bacteria by disrupting the electrochemical adhesive functions of yeast and bacteria cells.
