Consisting of a separate transmitter and receiver, they are designed to activate an alarm when an intruder passes within the direct line of sight between the transmitter and receiver. The D422i has a range of 30 m (100 ft) outdoors or 90 m (300 ft) indoors. The D426i has a range of 60 m (200 ft) outdoors or 180 m (600 ft) indoors. The DS426i dual-beam photoelectric motion detector uses two beams of tightly focused infrared light to cover both indoor and outdoor areas. Using a dual-phase power consumption model, the system draws very little energy to cover an area, and then quickly works up to alert mode when an intruder is detected. This infrared motion sensor is designed to observe movement at ranges of up to 200 feet outdoors, or 600 feet indoors, where there is less noise to distract the system. With two narrowly focused IR beam sensors, the DS426i photoelectric detector is able to detect subtle movements anywhere within its field of view. The beams emit deep in the infrared at a frequency that the receiver array is optimized to detect. This reduces the signal-to-noise ratio and cuts the number of false-positive alarms. Good target discrimination and a narrow beam focus help the DS426i operate well for both indoor and outdoor monitoring.
