BQ Smokers (VDS Models) are built heavy duty with 14g inner and outer walls. All joints are solid welded to prevent rust out areas that you see with other building styles that use a lapping method with thinner gauge materials and pop rivets or screws. We use a 2" thick 1400 degree insulation. This gives an average burn time of 1.5 - 2.5 hours per pound of charcoals depending on cooking temperatures desired. We are building 3 sizes for you to choose from. All are direct fired units, using a grease catch pan design located between the coal rack and the cooking racks. The bottom of the unit is tapered to a 1-1/4" drain valve for easy cleaning. There is also a ash catch pan for easy removal of burnt fuel. The unit is controlled with a 2" intake air valve and a 4" stack with a swivel vent cap. You can also use fan systems like the Pitmaster IQ or BBQ Guru's for a little more high tech precise control.
