I notice many trailers on line state 6'6" inside height. If you've ever worked inside a food trailer, you know this is unacceptable. And once you install light fixtures and or air conditioning, you lose another several inches. Without enough ceiling height, you'll feel like you have to bend over throughout the day to run your operation. Another thing that really catches my eye is undersized axle/tire configurations. I cant' tell you how many times I see trailers of this size (20' long) that have 3500 lb axles on it. An experienced manufacturer knows this is unacceptable. Properly rated axle/tire configuration is not only necessary for the heavy loads of a food trailer but it's a must for safety reasons. Also be leery of entry doors without screens. If it states "door with bar lock", then it doesn't come with one, isn't compliant and will not pass your regulatory inspection. Galvalume roofs are also inferior. They just cant' handle the heavy loads of a commercial hood system. We've repaired enough sagging ceilings in other trailers to know. I bring up these points because someone new to the concession industry simply won't know any better but the company's that sell them do! So why do they sell them that way? It's simple. They want to offer you a low priced concession trailer only to turn around and sell you on the upgrades. And if you don't buy the upgrades, you'll either break down while traveling to your event or have to upgrade later when your regulatory agency says "your trailer won't pass". We see and hear it all the time and believe me, it can cost you thousands to get your food trailer up to par. Hopefully these few simple tips will help you make the right decision from the start which is critical when opening a new business.
