Briggs and Stratton Engine Data Handbook , compiled by Bob Learned in the 1980s and 1990s. 1985, 8 1/2 x 11 paperback, 17 pages. From the INTRODUCTION: This book deals exclusively with the cast iron engines built from the early 1920's up to the 1950's and does not cover any of the more modern aluminum engines. Be aware however that aluminum parts such as oil sumps, cylinder heads, and shrouds were used on special lightweight versions of the early engines. There is no attempt here to discuss the restoration or repair of these engines. Such information is contained in other books and service literature from Briggs & Stratton. This is merely a compilation of Specifications and manufacturing date data that have been gathered from various sources and condensed into what is hopefully a useful format. Because of the wide variety of sources used and the occurrence of conflicting data in some of the sources, there can be no guarantee of accuracy in this information. I have attempted to determine the best source if possible. 1 would appreciate any corrections or additions that could be added to a future revision of this book.
