Bruel & Kjaer 2231 Modular Precision Sound Level Meter kit in original case. This meter is the landmark of sound level measurement. B&K says that it "made its debut in 1983 and changed the sound level meter market. It was a programmable platform, and during its more than ten years in production a large range of application modules were released such as logging, room acoustics, infra/ultra sound, human vibration and more, making Type 2231 the undisputed leader." The kit consists of: 1. 2231 Modular Precision Sound Level Meter with a damaged 4155 microphone capsule (see below) and ZC 0020 Input Stage. This is the main unit. 2. BZ 7100 Integrating Sound Level Meter Application Module. This is the basic application module. If you leave the main unit powered off for a long time, you need to reload this module or any other compatible module. 3. 1624 Octave Filter Set which can plug into the main unit. 4. JJ 2614 input adapter 5. UA 0237 windscreen 6. Original B&K labeled Samsonite attache case with molded inserts. 7. ZF 0020 -20 dB attenuator for very loud measurements 8. Serial interface 9. A pdf copy of the manual on a USB stick. The kit is in good condition with the following exceptions: 1. Although the 4155 microphone capsule works, its protection grid is dented and its diaphragm is damaged. In field use, the microphone capsule can be regarded as a consumable because it is easily damaged. The equivalent, modern replacement unit is the B&K 4940 - 1/2 -inch free-field microphone. The battery compartments of both the 2231 and 1624 have been damaged by leaking batteries. I've cleaned them and inserted copper foil to replace a broken contact spring. The damage appears to be confined to the battery compartments which are mostly isolated from the main PCBs, but I have not opened up the units to explore further.
