The Buckeye is a breed of chicken originating in the U.S. state of Ohio. Created in the late 19th century, Buckeyes are the only American Poultry Association (APA) standard breed of chicken known to have been created by a woman, and the only one in the American Class to have a pea comb. As of 2014, Buckeyes are listed as "Threatened" by the Livestock Breeds Conservancy. The breed's name is derived from Ohio's nickname of "Buckeye state", and their mahogany color is said ideally to resemble the seeds of the Ohio Buckeye plant (Aesculus glabra). They are a dual-purpose chicken that have a decent laying ability and strong meat production characteristics. Buckeyes are yellow skinned chickens that lay brown eggs. My rooster and hens are not related and produce healthy offspring.  When hatched at home I have about a 98% fertility rate and about a 95% hatch rate.  Shipping can cause these percentages to decrease.  I will pack the eggs securely to prevent breakage but once they leave my hands I have no control on how they will be handled.  I cannot guarantee hatch rate.  Also I will not ship eggs if extremely cold and will delay shipping due to poor weather conditions.  I collect the eggs everyday and they are stored in a cool environment and are turned.  Please provide a phone number where you can be reached as I will request the eggs to be held at your post office so they are not sitting on a front porch in the elements.  If you have any other shipping requests please let me know. Thank you!!
