A fuse has a simple design or construction with the key component being the "element". A short piece of metal wire or strap The element is designed to melt at a specific temperature to protect wires and or equipment from damage of overcurrent (surge) If an overcurrent (surge) happens the current in a circuit to rise above a specific level mainly the circuits rating, this increased heat will melt the fuses element causing the fuse to "blow". Fuses are designed to blow at temperatures far below those that would cause any damage or hazard. Once a fuse has "blown" it can be replaced to allow the current to flow again.
