The Magic Yellow Flyer                   Instructional Guide                                                                Hello:   If you ever met the 3 guys whom created these flyers, you would probably walk away scratching your head.  If you remember the old time comedians “The Marx Brothers”, then you’ll have an idea of their personalities.                                                        They are Master Marketers – total “out of the box” thinkers.  A little Loony too….   These flyers are responsible for taking my business from a local-struggling business, to a thriving business, where I started turning customers away. Nice problem to have…………… I attended their seminar in Canada and invested an outrageous amount of money to spend just 3 days with these rascals. I own the rights to these flyers.  Now you are the lucky one who will gain access to something which will cause your business to explode! All you do is customize them to fit what you do and what you offer – make some copies and send them to houses in your local neighborhoods or put them on cars, put them in your local newspaper as an insert etc…..  Here’s what you do: When you open the attachments you will see there are words or sentences which I have outlined in RED…. When you see the RED words or sentences, all you do is back space and delete the generic words or words that DO NOT pertain to you.  Then, you simply type in - in place of those generic words, the things that DO pertain to you.  Its common sense as to what you will type  -  in place of what’s there in RED. Note:  Items in RED simply mean, this word or sentence may or may not belong in the flyer and you should consider customizing it to your business.  Make sure the words or sentences you are re-typing  are in BLACK.  There should be NO MORE RED on the flyer when you are done. Red is only to alert you to the fact that you may have to customize here. It DOES NOT have to be deathly precise.  Just type in what pertains to you.  In some areas, you may find that several different descriptions may be appropriate.  Choose a word that will make the most sense when you read it in the sentence.  The most important thing is keeping the placement of everything - how it looks on the flyer.  The boxes and picture areas have to stay where they are and the arrangement has to stay EXACTLY how it looks.  If you have to change some wording or a sentence, you can do that but try to stay as close to the original flyer as you can. Also when it comes to the pictures on the flyer, you should have someone take a nice picture of you – or you and your family etc.  To make it easy, have the picture taken with a digital camera and then download it to your picture files.  From there, you can copy or cut and paste it to the flyer.  Before and after pictures can be gotten anywhere or from your personal picture file.  You really should have 1 before and after picture as shown on the Yellow Flyer.  If you do not have your own, you can always search for a nice finished picture online from the industry you are in and if the picture is not yours, an ethical caption under the picture could read- “This is the type of quality you can expect from my service” and you had better give it to them……. If you need help with the computer or printing, copying etc.. Just ask a friend or family member to help you.  If you can’t find someone helpful, almost any local computer geek in the newspaper can assist you for a small fee.  Usually $50.00 IMPORTANT: Please save and copy the attachments I sent you –as is- before you do anything to it. If you screw it up, at least you will have a copy to go back to and redo it again.                                                      Make sure you did not miss anything when customizing – what a shame it would be to make a 1000 copies and you find a small error on the flyer – one you carelessly overlooked - BIG waste of money – BE CAREFUL>>>   When you find a street or streets you wish to solicit, just jot down the street name and a house number.  You can drive down the street and jot down ALL of the house numbers or you can save a lot of time by going home and log onto www.zillow.com.  Imput the street –city-state-zip into the www.zillow.com website.  Little diamonds will show up – each diamond is a house – click on it – the house number will show up for each diamond. Fold the flyers and put them inside envelopes.  You do not know the names of the people so; address the envelopes as “Current Resident” and then, the entire address.  DO NOT put your return address on the envelope – it will go into the trash – trust me….. You can if you wish buy a mailing list of local people in your hometown – even a targeted list of people who may be looking for your type service. I like www.melissadata.com but you order the list from wherever you like.   Go to Office Max or Kinko’s etc and make color copies on White paper.   Also get a self-inking stamper made up in Red Ink that says IMPORTANT INFORMATION on it.   The store can make them for you.  It will cost you maybe $25 bucks for the stamper and it lasts forever.  Stamp the front of each envelope with it.  At first just test your area before going crazy with 2000 flyers.  Just pick 100 homes and send them.  You may get up to 20 calls…  If not, send it again 10 days later and again.  Your phone should get ringing.  When you get your job and finish the job to Total Excellence, tell your new-happy client, that you want to send a flyer to their neighbors and would like to know if you could use some of their nice comments on the flyer.  9 times out of 10 they say YES!  Take the other flyer I sent you – the white background flyer – and customize that one too – include your new client’s comments in there as well. Send them out to that street- you just made some good money – you need to send these referral flyers out to duplicate yourself and build a referral only business and eventually stop sending out flyers altogether because you will hopefully be getting so many referrals, you will have to sub-contract or turn them away.  It takes a couple of years - the key is DO NOT STOP THE FLYERS until you achieve those results… Nice problem to have – huh?   Always keep in touch with your clients during the year.  IT’S CRITICAL!!! I send them a Happy Spring Card – A Fourth of July Card and a Holiday Greetings Card.  I will say:  Just a quick hello.  Hope you are enjoying this great time of year.  It was a pleasure serving you.  If you know of anyone who may benefit from my service please let them know what I do. We love and greatly appreciate referrals.  Thank you.  J Your (XYZ)-roofing – lawn- carpet cleaning-etc..) Expert Johnny Apple Wood 1-866-xxx-xxxx xyz services.   If you can only do one card, do a Happy Spring Card.  That’s when the service season usually begins unless you plow snow or something winter oriented.. It is inappropriate to solicit business at the Christmas Holiday Season. You may turn a lot of people off.  Just a Card with your name and company is sufficient at Holiday time.   Good luck.   P.S. The little secret is – those that are not consistent with this-will go out of business.  Along with business ethics – staying in business is really this simple. Remember that famous quote:  If you think you can or you think                                                       you can’t – you’re right!
