Catalogue No. 6, The Barrett Machine Tool Company, Manufacturers of Horizontal Cylinder Boring Machines, by Barrett Machine Tool Co., Meadville, PA. Undated, but probably from 1910s. 11 x 8 1/2 (landscape) paperback, 45 pages. Please note this is an ORIGINAL, not a reprint. It is in fair condition. The covers are badly worn and torn, with burn marks along the top edge (or what’s left of it). The inside pages are in much better condition, and except for burn discoloration along the outside edges, could be described as almost in mint condition. There is a large label on the bottom of the front cover, “For sale by L.R. Meisenhelter Machinery Co., N.E. Cor. 4th and Arch Sts., Philadelphia, Pa.” A similar stamp in red ink is on the title page. There is no historical material I could find on Barrett at all, other than an ad in a 1917 edition of American Machinist magazine. But the boring machines pictured and described here must have been in great demand by the makers of large steam engines with massive horizontal cylinders. An extremely rare industrial catalog from a forgotten company that probably played a crucial role in the spread of steam power.
