Caterpillar Sixty Photo Archive, by P.A. Letourneau, published by Icongrafix, 1993. 8 1/2 x 11 (landscape) paperback, 142 pages. ISBN 9781882256051 Please note this book is new, not used, but is slightly shopworn: the front and back covers are scuffed. A magnificent collection of rare black & white photographs specially selected from public and private archives – including Caterpillar Inc.’s corporate archives. These detailed photos clearly show the unique characteristics of these historic tractors. The 60 horsepower Cat Sixty was originally introduced for sale in 1919 by the C. L. Best Tractor Company, and became the most successful tractor in the Best model line. After the 1925 merger of the C. L. Best Tractor Company and the Holt Manufacturing Company that formed the Caterpillar Tractor Company, the Best 60 was renamed the Caterpillar Sixty, and was manufactured from 1925 until 1931. Altogether, from 1919 and 1931, a total of 18,948 Best 60 and Caterpillar Sixty tractors were manufactured. The tractor was famous for its overhanging radiator, individually mounted cylinders, lever controls, and open clutch. This was the machine that established Caterpillar as the world’s leader in tracked tractors for farm, earth-moving, and construction.
