This is a 715 ion chamber meter and a manual to use it. These 715 meters are extremely hard to find in working condition, though many will pass the circuit check. This one will zero in all ranges and remain stable in operation. I used a golden engineering XR-150 to test it in all ranges and it reads true. The XR 150 makes a prompt radiation field in excess of 16,600R/Hr, yes that is whole R's indeed pretty SCARY!! Thankfully it does so for only about 60uS with an average dose per pulse of about 1mR at a foot. You can see a dramatic demonstration of the inverse square law in the pictures of the x10 range. This x-ray unit makes a very convenient, relatively safe, and reliable test source for these meters since that amount of radiation can easily ionize the chamber enough to register due to the extra long time constant of the meter. Something electronic sure beats having to mess with multiple curies worth of Co-60 or Cs-137 to test something like this! One thing to note about this meter is that it is NOT a geiger counter! It is a serious doomsday prep item that will be of use only if there is significant fallout from a nuclear war or an epic release of radioactive material on a scale like what happened at Chernobyl or Fukishima, AND happen to live within a few miles from it. Definitely something you hope you never need to use, but if you do, you will be glad you own it! The X-ray unit is not for sale, as i use it for weld inspection. If you are interested in one just search ebay for golden engineering x-ray. I have lots of lasers and other unique stuff for sale this week.
