 This Microscope was sent to me by Celestron as a courtesy replacement after a technician advised my to use an incorrect power supply. I have turned it on with an external power supply and with batteries, and find that it works fine. I have used this model Celestron Microscope for several years now and find that they work very well.  I have taken both still and moving images, such as a mosquito and blood cells. The user manual is very helpful in showing the user how to get a wide range of quality images.Be sure to hold down the on/off button for about 5 to 10 seconds to turn on the Microscope's display.
