Lightly used Certified Coating Thickness Calibration Standards Standard Reference Material (SRM) 1362 There are four 30 x 30 mm coating thickness plates (coupons) mounted on a steel sheet which is sandwiched between two cardboard layers.  The plates are as follows:   1.57 mils 3.15 mils 5.4 mils 8.2 mils The SRM is from the National Bureau of Standards, Office of Standard Reference Materials, Gaithersburg, MD. The NIST SRMs 1358 to 1364 are employed in the calibration of the instrumentation used to measure non-magnetic coatings over magnetic substrates (and vice versa) based on magnetic principles.    This Standard Reference Material (SRM) consists of four 30 x 30mm coating thickness plates mounted on a steel sheet which is sandwiched between two cardboard layers.  This steel sheet appears to most instruments as an infinitely thick substrate.  This standard is designed for calibrating magnetic type thickness gauges used to measure thickness of nonmagnetic coatings on steel.  The coatings are electrodeposited copper with a thin layer of chromium for wear resistance on steel substrates, which have the magnetic properties of AISI 1010 steel.  Magnetic type thickness gauges are often used to measure the thickness of paint and other organic coatings on steel, as well as zinc (galvanized) and other nonmagnetic metallic coatings.   The certified coating thickness of this calibration standard is certified to be within +/- 5% of the true thickness   The NIST Coating Thickness SRMs are standards that offer traceability to a National Measurement Institute (NMI) for the calibration of coating thickness gauges that employ magnetic principles. The Thin Film and Nanostructure Processing Group also provides verification services in support of the standards produced. The SRMs consist of an AISI 1010 cold rolled sheet steel substrate with a uniform electrodeposited coating of copper that is overplated with a thin protective layer of chromium. Each coupon is individually certified for total coating thickness.
