YOU ARE BUYING FROM A SELLER WHO HAS **ALWAYS** HAD 100% POSITIVE eBAY FEEDBACK SINCE 1999, NOT JUST IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS. BID OR BUY WITH CONFIDENCE! ITEM DESCRIPTION: This is a cosmetically refurbished CherryMAX® G704B riveter. This tool is in good physical condition and fair to good functional condition. PLEASE NOTE!!! THIS TOOL WORKS BUT HAS ISSUES AS DESCRIBED BELOW, SO I’M LISTING IT AS “FOR PARTS OR NOT” WORKING. THIS ITEM IS SOLD STRICTLY AS-IS. NO RETURNS ON THIS ITEM, SO CONSIDER YOUR PURCHASE CAREFULLY!!! PLEASE READ THE FULL CONDITION DESCRIPTION. The G704B is manufactured in the U.S.A. by Cherry Textron Aerospace of Santa Ana, California. This is a very popular pneumatic-hydraulic tool designed specifically for the most efficient installation of CherryMAX® rivets. Its durable, all metal housing makes this extremely robust tool ideal for use in rugged shop environments. This tool utilizes straight, offset and right- angle pulling heads, all of which can install -4, -5, and -6 diameter CherryMAX® bulb type rivets in all head styles, materials and grip lengths. Extensions are available for extending the pulling heads to reach limited access areas (PULLING HEADS AND ACCESSORIES ARE NOT INCLUDED). The G704B is very similar to the Gage Bilt Products GBP 704 Riveter series and uses the exact same pulling heads. So a wide variety of pulling heads are available for this riveter from GBP and Cherry Textron Aerospace. With the appropriate adapters, you can also use a wide variety of pulling heads from Olympic/Allfast and other manufacturers. You can directly attach and use the versatile CherryMAX® H749A-456 straight, H781-456 offset and H753A-456 right angle pulling heads (PULLING HEADS NOT INCLUDED). This G704B comes equipped with a 1/4" NPT air connector and a copy of the instruction manual, which shows you how to maintain this tool and bleed the hydraulic fluid for optimal performance. PLEASE NOTE!!! The original rubber pintail deflector is missing. So, I have substituted a plastic bottle that simply press fits into the back of the tool. This arrangement has been thoroughly tested and works great for catching pintails. The gun is not modified in any way, so you can easily substitute the actual rubber pintail deflector part if you have it available or if you purchase it. The G704B currently sells for over $1,000 without a pulling head: AIRCRAFT TOOL SUPPLY CO. - CHERRY G704B, $1029.95 SKY GEEK - CHERRY G704B, $1,031.25 ITEM CONDITION: This tool is in good overall very clean condition. I have cosmetically refurbished this tool by repainting it using industrial quality solvent resistant paint that matches the Cherry factory blue color. I have applied new labels. There are some grind marks, minor cosmetic nicks, scratches, and wear spots that have also been smoothed out and painted over. It also has some minor cosmetic scuffs, nicks and scratches on the unpainted parts. PLEASE NOTE!!! This tool is in fair to good functional condition. It does work but needs servicing at some point. When connected to an air supply, the tool cycles normally without any air leaks. The puller shaft is fully forward and moves through its normal full stroke. When the air supply is removed, the puller shaft retracts back a bit. As the puller shaft retracts, the movement is not completely smooth. I think this tool needs a bit of attention and some of the head seals probably need to be replaced. A very small bit of oil is venting from the trigger when operated, but in my experience this is fairly normal with this type of tool. I have personally inspected, cleaned, polished, and lubricated this G704B tool. I have freshly bleed the tool and topped up the DEXRON III hydraulic fluid. I tested the tool with my own pulling heads and it does function well enough to pull CherryMax rivets. Please see my discussion below regarding used pneudraulic tools. PHOTOS: Here are some detailed photos of the exact item you are buying: A NOTE ABOUT USED PNEUDRAULIC RIVETING TOOLS: PLEASE READ, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE WORLD OF PNEUDRAULIC TOOLS!!! I am NOT a certified air hydraulic/pneudraulic riveting tool mechanic or technician. But I have been buying/selling/operating/refurbishing these types of tools for a number of years, and I’ve gained some experience. For anyone who is interested, these are my observations. Anyone looking at this listing knows that many used air hydraulic / pneudraulic riveting tools are sold on eBay. They are typically listed as “as is”, “not sure if it’s working”, “I have no way of testing it”, or maybe even “it works great!”, and leave it at that. The truth is more complicated and there’s always some risk involved in buying one of these tools used. Unless you KNOW that the tool is new or recently rebuilt, or unless you take it apart, it’s difficult to determine its actual working condition, and how long it will last before it does need a rebuild. First and foremost, if you are going to be using your own Cherry, GBP, Huck, and other pneudraulic riveting tools, you MUST have a hydraulic fluid bleeder tool! For Cherry and GBP tools, this is usually a specially designed bottle or syringe. For Huck and other tools, it could be an accordion-shaped bleeder. The bleeder will tell you a lot about the condition of the tool without opening the tool up. The bleeder bottle will remove any trapped air in the hydraulic system, top up the fluid, and keep your riveter working at maximum performance. A pneudraulic riveting tool is a high-pressure device containing many seals/gaskets. If some of the seals are a little worn, air will slowly creep back into the system, but the tool will still work fine as long as you bleed and top it up regularly. Eventually, the seals will wear to the point where you need to rebuild the tool. Note that some of the seals will wear out over time simply from age, even if you don’t use the tool. When you operate the tool, you may seem some vapor/mist blowing out around the trigger area as well as the air exhaust, typically located at the bottom of the tool. It’s normal to see some vapor but it can also be misleading and indicate trouble. You need to put a plastic bag under the exhaust, cycle the tool several times, and see what residue is left. Is it hydraulic oil, or just condensation from the water in your air compressor lines mixed with some air tool oil? Hard to tell. Most people probably do not have a truly professional properly filtered compressed air source, so sometimes, the natural water condensation in your air compressor lines, mixed with air tool oil, will appear to be hydraulic oil. Even if your tool is blowing a small bit of internal hydraulic oil, you can probably use the tool just fine and for a long time before you need a rebuild, as long as you bleed the tool and top it up regularly. So, when I sell you a tool and indicate that its working condition is from fair to excellent, I mean that in the context of what I have described here. Because of all the variables, I won’t offer any guarantees, but I’ll do my best to describe the tool’s condition and operation. Feel free to ask any additional questions.
