This is an authentic Clausing Colchester 17, 17" x 60" Model 8051 Engine Lathe S/N 7/0218/15712DD This is not a gap bed machine. The machine has 16 speeds, 20-1600 RPM. All of them work. The machine has Inch and Metric threading. All thread and feed ranges work. The machine has a 3 1/16" spindle bore. The machine has a 10" 3-Jaw Chuck. The machine has coolant. THE GOOD: The headstock sounds good and the headstock lube system is working. All of the speeds and feeds work. There is no noise in any of the gearboxes. The carriage (left/right) has very average to slightly below average backlash. The headstock shifts very smoothly and machine accelerates to speed very nicely. THE BAD: The crossfeed handwheel (in/out) has a lot of play. Approx 1 turn. The machine currently only engages in forward. In other words, the actuation lever only engages the machine in forward. When placed in reverse, you can hear an electronic "click" as though it is trying to engage, but nothing happens. It could be a simple fix, or could require extensive diagnostics. We honestly don't know. The people we bought the machine from never used reverse, so had no reason to look into making the repair. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS: The offbrand / no-name digital readout you see in the pictures and the toolpost on the compound WILL BE REMOVED before the machine gets loaded on truck. They are not included. WHAT YOU WILL GET WITH THE MACHINE are a 10" 3-Jaw Chuck, all the splash guards you see in the photos, a handful of tailstock centers (#5MT) and some drill chucks for the tailstock, a chuck wrench, and one (1) set of Colchester 17 manuals. The machine will be loaded on your flatbed truck at no additional charge to the buyer. Machine can be picked up in the Madison, WI area anytime. The machine weighs approx. 5200 lbs.
