CONTACTOR FOR CLARKE EZ-8 DRUM SANDER, FA-8 ABRADER PART # 41807A Clarke refers to it as a "contactor", but most of us just call it a relay. This component enables the safety function which prevents the machine from starting when it's plugged in. Every time it's switched, a small arc jumps between the contacts, eroding them over time. Eventually, they will burn out, or even arc-weld themselves together (meaning you can't switch the sander off). Rated 30A, 1 1/2 HP @ 120 or 240 VAC This part is the same for both 115V and 230V versions of the machine. Retail price: $92.00, plus shipping! Note: Before purchasing, do a little troubleshooting to find out whether it's this relay and not the switch (part # 47387b, which I also stock). I recently spent an hour trying to figure out what was wrong with one, and finally discovered it was the power cord! An ohmmeter might help; you can get one for little more than $10 at any hardware/home center. Tip: When reassembling the handle, remember that you are screwing into aluminum... don't overtighten!
