10*10*30mm (3 cm3) CsI(Tl) Scintillation detector assembly for gamma-spectrometry for use with PC or Tablet. Complete gamma spectrometer. Just connect to your PC/smartphone/tablet and you are ready to go! Construction overview. Scintillation detector assembly consists of 10*10*30 mm CsI(Tl) monocrystal, silicone MPPC (multi-pixel photon counter), low-noise regulated thermo-compensated power supply, low-noise preamplifier and analog-to-digital converter with USB interface. 10*10*30 mm CsI(Tl) detector is good for gamma-spectrometry in more than 20 Kev – 3 Mev energy range. Typical energy resolution is better than 7% for 662 Kev peak of Cs137 source. Light output of CsI(Tl) crystals and MPPC gain depends on temperature, so special compensation circuit built in. CsI(Tl) is much more rugged than NaI(Tl). Scintillation crystal is optically matched with special MPPC. Unlike of vacuum PMTs MPPCs are not sensitive to magnetic fields. MPPC power supply circuit is low-noise PWM type, output voltage is stabilized. Optimum voltage is adjusted, no user-adjustable parts inside. Output voltage is additionally filtered. Dimensions: 60*35*20 mm Weight: 40 grams Sensitivity and load. 10*10*30 mm CsI(Tl) scintillation detector have very high sensitivity: around 8 000 pulses per minute to microsievert per hour. It is normal that in typical gamma radiation background (0.1 uSv/h) you will see around 10-15 counts per second, or 600-900 counts per minute. More than 1000 counts per second load is not recommended. Software and technical tips. Freeware Becquerel Monitor or PRA software is recommended for use with PC. Switching OFF of absolutely all sound effects for sound input device is strictly required. Some Windows (especially Windows 7) drivers sets microphone gain to maximum possible at first start, so it may need to be adjusted manually during first run. Optimum settings for your equipment depends on computer and operating system and may be different.For Android users recommended app is Atomspectra. For iPhone users recommended app is Geiger Bot.
