Smooth working, well made 4-way Spring latch with the dead latch feature that the strike plate holds back from going into the hole. Thus detours the knob lock latch from being pried open. The square center hub would work well with most foreign residential knob locks. Will NOT work with the half moon knob spindal. Ok DIY's, How hard  can it be to change out a knob lock. You get the old one off, and open the child proof blister pack of the new lock, and put the breaks on when you find out that the new latch wont reach. Especially if its a metal door.  This 4-way means that this deadlatch is the standard backset of 2 3/8", and then take the face plate off, and it becomes a 2 3/8th" drive-in latch. This is the most common size for wood residential doors. If you just drilled the latch hole in a metal door, the drive (hammer) in function saves you from having to recess the faceplate. Now the small tab at the top of the latch will slide over to the 2 3/4" legenth now. Most commercial steel doors use this measurement. Remove the faceplate, and now its a 2 3/4" drive in dead latch. I can slide this real easy and not break a nail trying. Save yourself the fustration, and get yourslf a few of these time savers.
