This handsome luxury desk set was bought at a very large antique show in Monterey, California in the 1990s. It was made in Italy and the seller (from Canada) thought it dated from early 1950s. I have spent hours/days, to no avail, on the internet trying to get information about the sculptor Cantollari Paelo, date the set was made, identity of the maker, etc. The base measures 23 and 1/2 inches by 5 and 3/8 inches.  The horse head paper weight is 8 inches tall.  Both pieces together weigh 5 pounds and 14 ounces.  This lightly used piece is in very good condition.  There are very slight scratches on the lacquered wood and black base.  The wood grain is very decorative. The pen has been replaced and the clock is not running (I have not had it checked).  I believe the horses are cast aluminum and very stylized. Both the head and reclining horse are signed Cantollari Paelo. THIS IS A QUALITY PIECE AND VERY WELL MADE.
