Dictaphone?  Dictaphone up your nose!  Well, anyway, this is a vintage Dictaphone model 2880 cassette transcription machine with foot pedal controller and message module.  This machine enables a secretary to review material on cassette tape while typing it out, and playback is controlled from the foot pedal so that the secretary's hands do not need to leave the keyboard.  The Message Module, I believe, is to enable the device to act something like an answering machine, although I am frankly not entirely sure.  Suffice it to say it is meant to hook up to the phone line, and it has a ringer equivalence of 0.4 bells.  We have tested this unit as best we are able, and can confirm that the cassette transport mechanism works perfectly, as does the audio section.  It pulls tape, rewinds, adjusts speed, responds to the foot pedal controls, etc.  The speed and tone controls work perfectly (variable-speed playback makes a cassette transcriber lots of fun to play with!).  Because we simply do not know how to operate it, the message module is untested.  Because of the age of the unit, we must offer it As-Is.
