At long last! A professional stirplate built for brewers... and it doesn't cost the world! Healthy yeast starters make great beer, and the best way to make healthy yeast starters is with a stirplate. A stir plate keeps your yeast suspended and wort aerated while your starter grows to ensure fast, efficient and predictable growth rates, saving you both time and money. Digital Homebrew's Digital Stirplate is a unique digitally controlled magnetic stirrer that's designed specifically for home brewers wishing to grow healthy, consistent yeast starters (although it will excel at many other tasks as well!). Traditional analog stirplates have a few inherent drawbacks that can make them tricky to operate. Without any active feedback, they often take quite a high power setting to get them to initially start spinning (sometimes over 50% on their speed dial). Once they begin spinning, it's hard to tell just how far you're able to safely dial the speed back down without going too slow and stalling the motor. This issue is only exacerbated by the fact that yeast slurries are opaque so it's often impossible to see just how fast (or slow) your stirbar is spinning. From the beginning, the Digital Stir Plate was designed to alleviate these issues. Unlike traditional analog stirrers, the Digital Stir Plate uses a PID control loop (like the cruise control in your car) to hold your desired stirring speed, even when external factors are at play. Combined with our simple "Up/Down" button interface, the built in circuitry makes it a cinch to dial up the exact stirring speed you want in increments of 100rpm. This unique "set and forget" method of speed control promotes consistency across your starters by allowing you to dial up exactly the same speed each and every time you grow a starter, therefore helping to stabilise variables like wort aeration, temperature increase or perhaps even cell stress levels that could impact the quality and growth rate of your starters. While there are still many other factors at play, we hope that by keeping some variables in check you will be able to achieve more consistent pitching rates, allowing you to brew your favourite batch with even more consistency! Whie the digital stirplate is only small in size, it really packs a punch in it's ability to stir large starters. Using the provided 30mm stir bars, we are able to stir a vortex all the way to the bottom of a 5L flask that physically dwarfs the stirplate. That being said, due to the precise nature of the digital control system the Digital Stir Plate also really shines at stirring small starters at slow and consistent speeds. Even with the very same 30mm stir bar that works with 5L starters. What new features does the Digital Stirplate V3 have compared to the Digital Stirplate 2.0? We kept the motor, magnets and enclosure the same as the previous (orange faced 2.0) version as we were already very happy with its performance. However, under the hood we've made a few refinements to cut down weight including nylon fasteners and a redesigned PCB in order to shave off a few grams that will allow us to post the stirplates with more bubble wrap and packaging, while still remaining under the 500 gram postage limit. Also, we've improved our software calibration procedures to ensure our stir plates are more reliable than ever before. The front membrane is splash proof and the case is professionally CNC cut and screen printed. The internals are securely bolted together and the case also has mounting flanges on the sides so you can easily affix it to a brewing bench for added stability. Each Digital Stirplate is individually tested before shipping and comes with DigitalHomebrew's "NO BS" lifetime warranty. We really want this stir plate to serve you for a lifetime, and if there's anything inferior about it, we WANT to know! So if anything goes wrong, just send it back with proof of purchase and we will gladly refund your money, repair your stir plate, or replace it with a new one! Each Digital Stir Plate is provided with two 30mm stir bars. This means if you lose one you're still able to keep on brewing while you order a replacement, but most importantly, you can use the second stir bar's magnetic attraction to slide the other stir bar out of your flask before you pitch your starter into the fermentor. That way you won't accidentally pour it in with the wort and lose your stir bar for a few weeks! And the price? It's a shame that our dollar has devalued by more than a 15% since we started building the original digital stir plates, and naturally our bill of materials has increased in unison. Still, we're determined to continue offering our digital stir plates to AHBers for the original low price of only $79! Even the cheapest Chinese units cost more (a LOT more with postage) and they come with tiny stir bars, poor performance, no warranty, and absolutely none of the technical wizardry used in our digital stir plate. It's a similar story with some of the US built units as well - impractical warranty conditions, DIY-like construction (you may as well build it yourself) and obscene pricing to boot! That's why we're so proud to offer our own Australian-made magnetic stirrer that's got them beat on every count!
