Like many of us, I love to create and build neat solutions for problems that I encounter. This product that I've created allows you to take that old 3-13hp engine you have and repurposed it to something useful such as a generator. I’ve personally lived through hurricane Irene and Sandy with my homemade generator and let me tell you, It was great! With my DIY generator coupled with a power inverter I was able to power my fridge, central heat, tv, laptops, and lamps. But the possibilities don’t end there! You can use a DIY generator to quickly charge marine batteries, solar battery banks, help jump a dead car or other industrial equipment, and much more. What I’m selling are the brackets to make this project happen. I’ve spent many months tinkering with direct drive and belt drive designs and finally came up with this design that keeps the project portable and reliable. To complete the project you will need of course an engine with a 4 bolt square mounting pattern (most power washers horizontal and vertical have these; horizontal is recommended due to the mounting complications of a vertical engine, but it can be done!), the associated pulleys and belts, old car alternator (GM 10si or 12si; may work for others as well), and lastly my DIY Generator Brackets. Optional items include a 12c deep cycle battery and a DC-AC power inverter. These brackets were designed to handle dual alternators! In case your project is calling for more power or more voltage options, these brackets are designed in such a way two sets can be flipped allowing the use of dual alternators. What’s included: 1 Engine side bracket (laser-cut unpainted 10 gauge steel) 1 Alternator side bracket (laser-cut unpainted 10 gauge steel) 6 Aluminum spacers 6 hex bolts w/ washers and nuts Recommended tested HP to Alternator power: 3HP is good for <=50 amps 5HP is good for >=50 amps Recommended pulley/belt combination:* 3HP engine 3” OD Drive pulley 3.2” Alternator Pulley 19”x1/2” (A17 belt) 5HP engine 4” OD Drive pulley 3.2” Alternator Pulley 20”x1/2” or 21”x1/2”(A18 or A19 belt) *other combinations will work, these are just some that worked for me.
