The Geiger Kit allows you to run most GM tubes, and displays and outputs the counts. It uses an Arduino compatible ATmega328P and is open source. This is the original DIY Geiger Counter Kit with the v5 circuit board that has constantly improved over the years. The kit includes over 75 quality components along with a mini-remote to access the menu setup options. This is a mature product with many satisfied customers, great documentation and support. An LCD with white characters on a blue background is supplied unless you add a note that you would prefer an LCD with black characters on a green background. The Geiger tube, battery or any case is not included. Hardware Features: Quality silk-screened PCB - 4.7 x 9.14 cm (1.85 x 3.60 inches) ATmega328P microprocessor is Arduino “Uno” compatible with headers for all I/O pins. Designed to be expandable and adaptable - the HV circuit is independent of the processor. The standard 2x16 LCD display simply plugs into provided headers - no extra board needed Can be powered by a 9V battery or AA batteries - 4 jumpers for other functions High voltage power supply – adjustable from 200 to >940 volts (powers a larger variety of GM tubes) Miniature speaker instead of piezo for a classic Geiger counter "click" instead of a dippy "beep" IR sensor on board used by included mini-remote for menu system LED and speaker indicates activity directly from the GM tube - not from the processor. Capable of displaying high CPM counts (over 1,000,000) FTDI connector outputs log data to serial port and also allows for reprogramming. (low cost adapter required for PC connection not included) Interfaces to various graphing programs and the free “Geiger Bot” phone app Low cost GKnet board available will connect to Radmon.org and Xively without a PC. Software Features: Original author of the Version 11.0 software - pre-installed Display in CPM and choice of uSv/h, uR/h or mR/h Uses a running average for count display along with a fast acting bar graph 2 “scaliers” display 1 minute and a user defined period for accumulated counts Low battery indication alarm for high counts with settable threshold triggers off of either CPM or dose Tone Mode option - set speaker to produce a tone that varies in pitch with activity. (like a metal detector) Setup Menu - allows you to configure running parameters and features with the mini-remote A brief description of the setup menu options are as follows . . . DISP PERIOD (MS) - The number of milliseconds before the display refreshes. LOG PERIOD - Period to write CPM, 'dose', and MCU voltage to the serial output. CPM->[DOSE] RATIO - Sets that ratio for the type of GM tube used. ALARM THRESHOLD - When the CPM or DOSE units is greater than this value the alarm is triggered. DOSE UNIT - Used to select the name of the unit for the dose value - "uSv/h", "uR/h" or "mR/h". ALARM UNIT - Sets whether the alarm is based off of CPM or the DOSE unit. SCALER PERIOD - Sets the user definable period for the second scaler. BARGRAPH MAX CPM - CPM that will give a full scale reading on the bar graph. TONE SENSITIVITY - Determines how sensitive the tone is to changing activity. USE RADLOGGER? - When "Yes" serial output is compatible with Radiation Logger application - see Android / PC BT Graphing page. REG. VOLTAGE - Displays the voltage powering the MCU (Vcc).
