The mechanics of 3D Doming The 3D Doming process relies primarily on four components: dispensing bottle, a resin from which the dome or lens is formed, Ultra Violet (UV) light and a product with surface tension sufficient enough to accept and control the liquid resin during and after application. The dispensing bottle or a large syringe deposits the resin on the surface of a receptive product, usually a tag, decal, label, or nameplate that has previously been printed and cut. A plotter-cut label works best, it creates more consistent edges. Provided that the surface energy of the material is high enough to allow the resin to wet its surface, the resin spreads until it reaches the cut edges of the part, forming a dome that encompasses the entire part. In this manner, a cut label forms a dome after resin is applied and cured under UV light for 30 minutes. Step 1 Minimum doming work area and tools required. Step 2 After printing decals or labels, weed out the excess material. Step 3 Apply the resin using the dispensing bottle. Surface tension keeps the resin from flowing off the edge. This process can be done on all shapes and products, including script lettering. Step 4 To cure the resin, place the UV light unit over the doming products.
