For Parts Use or Reclamation:  One Stromberg-Carlson hand operated generator from the old days.  It looks just like a Western-Electric 48A 5 Bar Telephone Magneto.  There is  identification stamped in the side of the unit and we can make out the Stromberg-Carlson  name and manufacturing point as Rochester, New York, but we don't see any model or  part number.  Maybe you will know where to look.  One clue is the gear ratio of the large turning gear to the smaller turned gear.  This indicates a high speed of rotation was intended since the large gear will turn once and by that turn, force the smaller gear to turn many times. This was found in an estate and we really know nothing else other than some Radio Shack  test leads were connected to it to extract the voltage.  Its old, rusty, untested & needs TLC. The handle does turn.  The paper over the armature coils is falling off.  If you like to tinker  and have mechanical skills, you may be able to clean & refurbish this unit. Condition:  Original, untested and undamaged as far as we know or can tell.  One source on the web cautions against disassembly but we do not know what this caution is.  If they are referring to disassembling the laminations to get to the coils, it is probably worth heeding until more information is found.  Mechanically, it was assembled by hand and so should be  able to be disassembled by hand.  Perhaps the buyer can research the process to determine  safe handling.  Either way, the coil windings should be re-covered and the rotary motion should be restored to its original state because output will be determined by how fast the crank is turned.  For our part as the seller, we offer it as a vintage collectible and strictly as is. Shipping:  Shipped via Common Carrier Ground which carries tracking & insurance.  We will ship the best way and rebate the buyer any overage worth rebating.  A small packing charge of $2 is used to defray cost of getting this packed & through the eBay process.
Condition For parts or not working :
An item that does not function as intended and is not fully operational. This includes items that are defective in ways that render them difficult to use, items that require service or repair, or items missing essential components. See the seller’s listing for full details.
Seller Notes Estate item found on a work table with leads attached. The handle crank turns but we did not attempt to determine voltage or current since that is a function of how fast the unit is cranked. The coils need recovering and the rotation is stiff. We think that someone knowledgeable about these things might know enough to restore free rotation and so reuse the item. I am told that original voltages ranged from 6 to 100 volts and 2 to 5 amps. But again: this particular unit is untested and sold as is.
