15 years ago, my mother-in-law came to live with us. Recently widowed, she left her house as it was, came to Oregon and said she was never going back home. We told her we would pack her house up, pack EVERYTHING, and bring here for her to sort through at her pleasure.  Her house was much like a museum, she was an avid and well known antique dealer and collector in Los Angeles in the mid to later 1900's.  We moved over 700 boxes of items from her house, along with many pieces of furniture. 1 of her pieces has been on the Antique Road Show.    I built a 7000 sq. foot building to accommodate all her collections. She never opened a box. She died about 6 years ago, and we have just begun the process of going through the boxes ourselves.  It is an arduous process. Some items will go to concession dealers, some are given away, some things donated, some are kept and some things are offered here.   I used to write a bit of the history at the beginning of each ad, I have decided to write this, and when a bit of provenance fits, I will include this introduction. These items were collected many years ago by a very sweet and knowledgeable lady. Wish she was here to tell me about each item we offer, but, I am on my own, and will do my best to describe. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  I am proud to offer this antique 1876 Enterprise 8 quart all purpose press. It is all cast iron, very well made, heavy duty and will press about anything you want to do. Sure it will make sausage.... but how about soy milk? pomegranate juice, apple cider, throw all those grapes in it and make some wine.... a duck perhaps? Lemons, beets, plums, pine cones.... I could go on, but you get the idea, this heavy cast iron press is pretty much unbreakable. Barring extreme acts of god and devastating catastrophes, which could be considered acts of a god. I digress.      This machine is absolutely in excellent condition. It is clean inside and out. All components are in excellent condition. There are no negatives to mention. NO rust, no breaks, repairs or cracks.   Everything is there, the small and large press plates, the bottom cast iron strainer plate, the sausage casing nozzle and the metal "keeper" that holds the nozzle on the press. Even the basket is in great shape.   The embossed letters have gold trim, there is a gold circle along the top. Of course you will see all this in the pictures.  These machines were made well over 100 years ago, and this one still looks and works as well as it did when new. That alone attests to the durability of the design and the materials used. You can but a new version of these, but I know the cast iron metals used now have added alloy material in them to save cost. That is why people who blacksmith always seek out old wrought iron, because it is a purer form of iron. Anyway, if you were so inclined as to go the BRAND SPANKING NEW route, they will set you back about $600 for a Chop Rite. And for what ..... Chinese pot metal?? Here is the best example of a older (and better in my humble opinion) working press you will run across. Some may have more glitter and gold "painted on" letters on the outside of the cylinder, but that is just cosmetics and will not make the press work harder or better. If you need to see the words "8 Quart" on the side, you are missing the point. I seem to be opinionated this morning. I will stop.   There are smaller models of the Enterprise press, the 2 and 4 quart versions. Now, I will offer one more opinion, because I seem to be on a roll. You can always use a larger 8 quart to make any amount up to 2 gallons, but.... can you press 2 gallons in a 2 quart press? Nooo... So why limit your work?  When the press is not in use, do not stick in a box and store it away. No, this press like to be out and seen! Put some faux grapes or other fruit around it, make it shine and be a happy member of your decor.     Please examine the pictures closely, as they are a very important part of my description. I write as much as I can reasonably write about the piece, but visual inspection through the posted pictures are worth a thousand words....  ask any question you may have, I will do my best to answer. I can take other pictures and send them to you via Ebay messages upon request.   NOTE: If you live in a closer postal zone to me, ie; the West coast, if the shipping is lower, I can issue a partial shipping refund once the label has been processed and I know the actual cost.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  Shipping is for USA lower 48, all other addresses will be calculated. Because I am a returning seller to Ebay, your feedback is important to establish trust with future buyers. I would very much appreciate pos. feedback once you receive the item and are satisfied with your purchase. I will reciprocate in kind. Thanks. I started selling on Ebay when Ebay was new to the world, and was a great place to offer unique items to a broad audience. Then, the monster of greed came, and Ebay transformed into something I disliked, a lot. I quit selling using Ebay. I was a gold seller, I had 1000's of great feedbacks, a couple of negs ( I have learned some people are impossible to please).    Now, I still have a 7000 sq. ft. building, filled with 100's of mystery boxes inherited from an avid antique dealer who had a great eye. SOOO, here  I am again, and just relearning the "new" Ebay. The fees have risen (Ebay even takes a percentage of shipping charges!), and the marketplace has changed, but, it still offers a larger audience than I can find elsewhere. Never know what is in the next box!
Excellent, the best example of an Enterprise press I have seen.
