This is a very lightly used Field Controls Draft Inducer/Chimney Fan that is used to create negative pressure to overcome the effects of wind, cold chimneys, insufficient chimney height or downdraft. The model is insulated to withstand peak temperatures of up to 1300 degrees Fahrenheit, and to operate continually at 900 degrees F. It works with an on/off switch or with variable speed control. We bought and installed this 8" model and there is nothing wrong with it, but unfortunately it was a serious miscalculation on our part; the draft inducer is too small and not powerful enough for our large fireplace.  I estimate that it has been used for about 20 hours, then sat unused for three seasons until we finally faced the music and replaced it with a 12 inch Enervex fan. It was at the top of our chimney underneath a solid stone slab so was quite well protected (picture of the chimney shows the new fan, but gives an idea.) We had to make a cut in the sheet metal for the insert underneath the fan in order to remove it (shown in the photos), but this will in no way affect its functioning. I didn't really try to clean it up, just a quick wipe, but any blemishes in the pictures are soot or grease, I don't see any rust, Really it is in excellent condition. Additional information about the fan's dimensions can be found at FieldControls.com, select "Products" and "Draft" from the dropdown menu, and then "Chimney Top Draft Inducers."
