Because the stem and Bourdon tube are filled and sealed with a special low temperature material, water cannot enter the tube. This prevents freezing and subsequent damage to the gauge. The fill fluid in the case dampens pulsations and vibration while eliminating the need for snubber valves. In addition, Interlube fill eliminates fogged lenses, rust and corrosion. Why Class 1 Gauges? • All Class 1 fire service gauges meet or exceed the requirements in ANSI and NFPA standards. • Sub-Z Freeze Proof — All fire apparatus gauges are fitted with a patented Sub-Z II isolating diaphragm located directly in the gauge socket to prevent water from reaching the critical Bourdon tube element. • Zytel Nylon Case — Tough corrosion and impact resistant Zytel nylon case is resilient and weather proof. • Compensated Case — No need to vent the case to atmosphere by activating a vent screw. All fire service gauges feature “internal breathing” diaphragms to compensate the case for changes in the internal case pressure. For example, a temperature increase will cause the fill fluid to expand which would normally cause pressure to build up inside a gauge case. Class 1’s breathing diaphragm prevents a build-up of case pressure (up to 150oF) thus insuring gauge accuracy over a wide range of temperatures. • Distortion Free Viewing— Class 1’s internal breathing diaphragm eliminates the need for a large air bubble in the mid range of the gauge which could distort readings. • Temperature Range — Gauges are rated from -40o to 150oF. • Customized Dials — Special dials with customer logos are available.
