"AMERICA UNITES - UNITED WE STAND - SEPTEMBER 11, 2001" "LAND OF THE FREE - HOME OF THE BRAVE" Condition: New Material: Nickel Antique Size: 1 1/2" diameter What is a challenge coin?  A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion (usually military), bearing an organizations insignia or emblem and carried by the organization's members. Traditionally, they are given to prove membership when challenged and to enhance morale. In addition, they are also collected by service members. In practice, challenge coins are normally presented by unit commanders in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. The CEO of Survivors Edge carries one challenge coin, and carries it every day. His wife gave him a "Pride, Commitment, Service" fireman's coin for Christmas by Northwest Territorial Mint.  Whether in his turnout gear for fires, or station gear for medical calls, it's in his left front pocket.  It reminds him of the love, care and honor his wife has for him, as well as prayers for his safe return.  It's just a coin. It has no magical powers.  But give one of these to someone you hold close in your heart, and it will become infinitely much more powerful than a round piece of metal. On September 11, 2001, deliberate acts of unimaginable evil were perpetrated against the United States of America. As a result of these devastating attacks, 3,000 innocent American lives were lost. Following the tragedy, the world watched in awe as Americans united in historic fashion to disavow the destruction visited upon their nation by a sworn enemy of freedom, promising to forever remember those who perished and to never forget the sacrifice of those who fell in the line of duty. This coin serves as a compelling reminder that the costs of freedom are constant vigilance and a ready willingness to defend the principles for which so many courageous Americans have given their lives. Featured on the obverse is the unforgettable image of three firefighters raising the flag above the ruined landscaped of ground zero. Minted on the reverse is a rendering of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. The Statue of Liberty is depicted in the foreground. This coin is struck in a nickel alloy and coated with an antique finish. Each commemorative coin comes packaged with an America Unites header card, which pays tribute to power of patriotism. Looking for firefighter, emergency medical responder, EMS, first responder item? Make sure you drop us a note.  Everyone on the Survivors Edge staff is a firefighter and an emergency medical responder.   This collector's coin is perfect for your firefighter, American patriot, and everyone who wants a daily reminder of September 11. One of my favorite challenge coins was passed around and prayed over before giving it to me.  Imagine that.  Everyone there held it in their hand and said a prayer for me.  You know I still have that one.
