Fisher Vintage Geiger Counter Uranium Scout Model S

The vintage Fisher instruments seem to have been constructed with quality components and workmanship.  The 60 year old Geiger counters continue working far longer than their competitors that were made during the Uranium rush of the 1950s.  This one is no exception.  New looking inside and out, all I did was put appropriate power to it and it fired right up.  This may be due in part to the type of Geiger tube used.  Most of the hundreds of different models of counters made in the '50s used thin metal IB85 GM tubes that were prone to damage from air pressure changes.  This model fisher employs dual CK 1026 glass tubes made by Raytheon that are actually sturdier than the alternative.  And two provide twice the sensitivity.  The D battery holder appears to have been replaced at some point in the past but everything else seems to be original. The 45v and 67.5v batteries can be hard to find but 9v batteries can be wired together as an alternative. When viewed as both a collectable and a functional Geiger Counter the price is more than reasonable.
