When measuring the contamination of liquid and bulk substances, a cover made of polyethylene film is put on the probe of the device to protect it from contamination with radioactive substances. Медленно перемещая зонд над поверхностью объекта, определяют место максималього заражения по наибольшей частоте щелчков в головных телефонах или по максимальному показанию микроамперметра. Затем зонд устанавливают упорами к поверхности на высоте 1 - 1,5 см, и после остановки стрелки снимают показания прибора. Полученные данные сравнивают с величиной гамма - фона. Если они более гамма - фона, определяется величина радиоактивного заражения объекта: из значения измеренной мощности вычитается величина гамма - фона, которая предварительно делится на коэффициент, учитывающий экранирующее действие контролируемого объекта. Эти коэффициенты равны: для человека - 1,2; для бронированной техники - 2; для автотранспорта - 1,5. Для обнаружения бета - зараженности объекта экран зонда прибора устанавливается в положение “Б”. Увеличение показаний прибора на одном и том же поддиапазон по сравнению с показаниями по гамма - излучению свидетельствует о наличии бета - излучения, а следовательно, о заражении обследуемого объекта бета - , гамма - радиоактивными веществами. При измерении зараженности жидких и сыпучих веществ на зонд прибора надевается чехол из полиэтиленовой пленки для предохранения его от загрязнения радиоактивными веществами.
