General Instruments Commander 8 Upconverter Dual-Band Multi-Standard C8U-MSI-LH General Instruments Commander 8 Upconverter Dual-Band Multi-Standard C8U-MSI-LH The C8U-MSI-LH is a downstream communications link used in analog and digital CATV headends to convert TV IF signals into RF output signals. The C8U-MSI-LH comprises two independent upconverters, referred to as Upconverter A and Upconverter B. Each upconverter has separate IF inputs and a frequency-agile RF output with a tuning range from 47 MHz through 600 MHz (C8U-MSI-L) or 550 MHz through 1000 MHz (C8U-MSI-H). The C8U-MSI-LH can address upconversion needs in any headend system application with TV IF signals including: Digital signals (for example, 64 QAM or 256 QAM) Analog addressable signals Video dialtone-signal applications The C8U-MSI-LH flexibility enables the delivery of analog and digital video, audio, and data for a multitude of service applications. In a digital system, the C8U-MSI-LH accepts a 64-QAM modulated digital signal from an IF source and converts it to an RF frequency for transmission on the transport network. In an analog system, the C8U-MSI-LH supports addressable channels. An encoded analog composite IF signal is received from the encoder and upconverted for transmission on the transport network. A modulating video processor, such as the General Instrument MVP II-*, scrambles video, audio, and data information on an addressable channel in a CATV system.
