This is my toolbox for gold tooling on Books and making gilded edges on books. There is everything here except starch for edge gilding The book of gold leaf is partially used and there are many leaves still in the book. There is crystal or dry glaire for gold tooling, a gold knife ( the ebony handle needs a little work), Armenian bole, beeswax, a gilder's tipping brush, a dog tooth agate burnisher and some fine brushes for glaire. I am also including a suede pad for cutting the gold which has some french chalk on it. No French chalk. There is also a piece of parchment that is used to set the caps while binding leather books and a binder's knife which can also be used to cut gold leaf. I have included the gold sponge that has some gold in it, it's old and probably should be sent in even though it isn't full of leaf scraps yet. ( the dry glair is mixed with water to make a watery 'glue' to adhere the gold, the glaire dries and the heated tool sets the gold in the desired shape.) I have retired from binding and it is unlikely that I will ever use these tools again. The collection of tools can be added to your own or it will set you up to do gold tooling on leather.
