GREENFIELD LITTLE GIANT TAP & DIE TOOL SET & BOX, VTG ANTIQUE WELLS BROTHERS EXTRA PICTURES BELOW. An antique set of taps & dies in the original box. Two pieces are missing. This is an early Wells Brothers Co "Little Giant" set with the original patent date of Feb. 3, 1885 also stamped into it. Manufactured in Greenfield, Mass. This company later became The Greenfield Tool Company. All of the die bars included are in working order, the fine set screws all turn, the reverse lock collars all turn and lock the thread cutters well. One bar, in the bottom tray in the top left corner, is missing one of the set screws, but I imagine that is easily replaceable, and still functional as is, anyway. On the two largest dies, I found two spots where a single corner of a thread cutter had a chip. On the whole all of the thread cuttiong teeth looked very good under close observation. Of the 10 taps included, 7 are original to the set while three are replacements. All of the cutting teeth on the taps appear in fine condition. One tap looks as if it may have been cut down in size. The original wooden box is firm, intact and structurally sound, despite all of it's weathered age. Original finish has been stripped and the box has been oiled at some point. Dies included: the 6 largest all have 1/32 stamped into them, the sizes in those are 1-8, 7/8-9, 3/4-10, 5/8-11, 1/2-12 & 7/16-14. The two smaller dies have 1/64 stamped into them and the two sizes there are: 3/8-16 & 1/4-20. Taps included are: 1-8, 7/8-9, 3/4-10, the 5/8-11 (looks like it was cut short), a 9/16-18 (not original, a Hanson Whitney), 1/2-12 & a 1/2-13, 7/16-14, a 5/16-? (not original, makers mark is obscured & light), and lastly, the 1/4-20 (also not original, labeled ACE) I respond Quickly to questions and inquiries.
