I buy storage lockers in auction like "Storage Wars", and recently became the winning bidder of a storage locker that belonged to a local physician. The reason I decided to bid on this particular room was that I could see several small pieces of medical equipment mixed among all of the neatly stacked boxes, along with some filing cabinets as well as a mix of personal items and office items. with my 20 years of experience in buying storage lockers in auctions, it was clear to me that everything in this locker was well kept and packaged away nicely for safe keeping. Yes, I did plug it in and it runs great, timer works, and light comes on....all good Starting Bid Price of Only $49.99 Someone asked me ... " If these items are all well kept and cared for, then why would someone let them go?" I answered, "They didn't, their items were sold in a lien sale to collect past due rent on their storage space." While the TV Shows states... "when a locker is abandoned, it will get sold in auction", in reality, it's a very small percentage of the rooms that go up for auction that are actually abandoned by their owners. Most people are storing these items because they have nice things to put away and they pay good money monthly to keep them safe. Who knows why they lost it all? There are probably a million different scenarios for why people lose their storage lockers in these auctions and it only takes one late payment to begin the lien process to collect past due rents. I've seen people begging in the hallways to please not sell their stuff ( when that happens, I try to help them get their stuff back). People may have gone to jail and haven't anyone to pay their monthly bills, or their partners can't pay the bill, or maybe just didn't know about it? Some people pass away and family members may have missed the payments or were just unaware, or they have no relatives. They may have lost their job. They may have been in another country. Any number of scenarios are possible. Many rooms look discarded or torn threw and picked over like garbage. This room was very clean and nicely packed and stacked and obviously cared for. I had to leave behind tons of special personal items along with 4 filing cabinets full of his patients records. I will ship the same day that you pay, so you get it fast!
