Maples Road Instrument Services 9107 Maples Road Ft. Wayne, IN 46818 "Technology Humans Can Still Comprehend" This offering is for an HP 3478A digital multi-meter. It includes an HPIB interface - standard on these meters.This meter came into the shop as a parts carcass, but after a little poking around the biggest problem was that the guy who threw it away had the "Rear/Front" push-button into the "REAR" position and he was using the front input terminals. His other diagnosis was that "... the HP book says the controller is bad...". The actual problem was the AC-RMS converter IC had died - a simple fifteen minute repair and it was ready to go. I don't claim to do calibrations, I know what a calibration actually means, but I cross checked this meter against my HP 3468A which was NIST traceable calibrated on 14 May of this year. As you can see from the second photo, the two meters agree to four decimal places on DC volts. (The meter is basically a DC voltmeter, everything gets converted to a DC voltage and then measured. If DC volts are good, just about everything has to work - barring a catastrophic failure somewhere). I did a cross check on DC Volts, AC Volts, Ohms, AC Current and DC Current and I will provide cross-check data with the unit. The meter correlates closely to my NIST traceable meter. It works very well. I did not verify the HPIB function, but HPIB interfaces have proven to be very reliable over the years. I checked the internal battery (CR14250SE, 3-volt, Date Code 08-03) and it measures 3.25 volts; it's good for a long time yet! The meter is in good physical condition. It's clean, a few dings and character marks, but nothing really distracting. The front panel is clean, no lab goo on it or the selector buttons. Input connectors are good. I added the beauty strips at the top and sides of the instrument - the original trim strips were gone and the mounting screws showed. As you can see from the photo of the bottom, the feet are missing - it was a racked instrument in its former life. Feet are readily available on eBay - I had to buy a set for my HP 3468A. Just to be perfectly clear - the HP 3468A shown in the one photo isn't included, neither is a power cord. Complete specifications are available on the HP website.
