History: I purchased this Hickok 539C in Southern California in December of 2015,  This came from the California Institute of Technology. It appears to have been used in their Fluid Mechanics Lab. It shows a date stamp of 01/1974 on it's CIT tag.  I used it for a month , and then sent it out to Bill Eccher in Colorado to have it properly restored in February 2016. Bill in my opinion is the expert of Hickok 539b/c's. He manufactures the digital meter kits specifically for this tube tester. They are also available for purchase from The Radiola Guy as well.  From the tube wizard site: The Hickok 539C is the Super Hickok's with a separate bias and line voltage adjust meter. This allows you to set bias to a measured voltage, and set the line during the gm test. This tester will give you the most repeatable tests. The "C" model is the premium model with 9 and 12 pin compactron sockets. If you take a look at the photo's you will see the calibration slip, as well as it testing a JAN-2a3 tube. The meter shows 465. And it is on (D) which is 6000. Take .465 x 6000 and you get 2790 micromohs. Minimum is 1900 on the roll chart.  I think this is the easiest way to do the math. Repair: It has had all out of tolerance resistors, and capacitors replaced, sockets cleaned and has been calibrated to better than factory specs. On top of being calibrated (with paperwork documenting all of the specs / voltages at time of calibration 02/2016). It also has had a few modifications as well.  You will note in the photo's that ALL of the meters have been replaced with high quality custom digital meters. Why is this important? These meter will last much longer than the original meter which were prone to fail. Also, this gives you test results which can be repeated time after time.  This has also had a plate current modification. The plate current jack jumper has been removed from the tester, and now you can connect any Digital Multi-meter that has a 200mV range to the plate jacks. Readings in mV will equal mA of plate current. This is critical in balancing output tubes. Bridge Sensitivity Mod Power Transformer DC Balance Condition: Things to note: The Tolex (black covering) has minor tears, rips, and holes in various places. At some point the power cord was ran out the back of the tester. It has been moved back to it's original spot, but there is still a cutout in the case if you wanted to run it out of the back. Some of the chrome bumpers have mild rust/pitting on them. The roll chart works great, and  the handle is not broken, and it still has it's original Hickok serial plate. Little to no wear on any of the knobs or roll chart. Please see photo's for details Items included in this auction:  (1) Hickok 539C tube tester (1) Grid Cap Wire (for use with a plate or grid tube)  (1) Model 539c Tube Manual  (From RadiolaGuy.com) (1) 1974 Supplemental and 1920s obsolete setup data (From RadiolaGuy.com) (1) 7 pin socket saver/Loktal Socket Saver/9 pin socket saver (mounted in tester) The manual's alone are a $80 value! Shipping & Returns: What is the worst thing ever than receiving a tube tester off eBay and having the rectifier fall out, or the transformer come loose, or the pilot lamps break out. Or wait? Having the meter's all damaged? Why do I mention these things? Because they have ALL happened to me! ALL OF THEM. So. Let me just say that Yes, I do know how to pack these for safe transit. One of the things I do is pull the tubes, and anything else that I think that might jar loose in shipping. And pack them up as to not damage the tester. I go back over all the nuts/bolts/screws and just make SURE that everything is tight.  **Disclaimer** By taking out the tubes, and assorted items you going to need to reinstall them in the tester. So if that is something you don't think you can take on then I would look at another unit to purchase. Sorry. :( I also don't do buyers remorse. It is listed at a fair Buy-It-Now price, and so you don't need to fight it out in an auction. What I do guarantee is that it will NOT BE DOA. These tube testers, PROPERLY packed will weigh over 35 pounds packed.
