Hilco Boxer # 20/032/00/00 (Lens Boxing tool) INTRODUCTION Your Hilco BoxerTM accurately and quickly measures horizontal and vertical box dimensions for lenses up to 70mm. This measurement is important for the size duplication of the lens to be processed. Applications for the Boxer include:  1. Measurement of A & B lens box dimensions,  2. Layout of lenses to mark and cut for proper location in frame. The Boxer may be used to determine seg height, finding the geometric center, and decentration of lens (measuring the amount in millimeters necessary to move optical center of lens to line up with pupil. Improper lineup may create prismatic effect).  3. To check measurements when heat treating lenses.  4. The Boxer is also used to check the size of a pattern and to be sure the lens pattern is symmetrical.  INSTRUCTIONS  A. TO DETERMINE THE A & B DIMENSIONS  1. On single vision lenses where the axis is not apparent, place the mounted lens "in its frame" on your lensometer table, spot the axis, and remove the lens. On flat top bifocal lenses it is possible to line the bifocal tops with the horizontal lines on the graph (see callout "A") for a true A & B measurement.  2. Place the lens in position against the top and side guides in the upper left corner of the Boxer and line up the lens axis spot to the horizontal broken lines on the Boxer (A).  3. Move horizontal and vertical slides until the lens is held snugly in place.  4. The hair line on the vertical and horizontal plastic slides will provide an accurate reading of the A & B measurements.  B. FINDING THE GEOMETRIC CENTER  1 . Center the lens width between the vertical lines (B) of the lower right graph.  2. Center the depth of the lens between the horizontal lines.  3. Mark the lens at the cross lines which will give the geometric center of the lens.  C. DETERMINING SEG HEIGHT  1. Place the bottom of the lens on the horizontal 0 - 30 line (C) and read up to a 30mm seg height using the scale numbers on the left side.  D. CALCULATING THE DECENTRATION AMOUNT  1. Spot the optical center of the lens in the lensometer.  2. Center the lens again on lower right graph (B) of the Boxer.  3. Read the amount of difference in millimeters between the spotted optical center and the marked geometric center.  *Vintage item for display only* *If you have any questions at all don't hesitate to message us.
