Wire spool is sealed in original plastic it has been on shelf in garage for a while. Hobart HB-28 Mig Welding Wire #S305401 Hobart HB-28 Wire Consistently Gives a Stable Arc This copper coated welding wire is designed for use on mild steel, and is formulated with a high deoxidizing content of silicon and manganese to provide excellent welding performance with CO2 or Argon/CO2 shields. Pictured above is a thin wire with a .024 width. This wire should only be used for thin metals ranging from 24 gauge (.025) to 18 gauge (0.050). This Hobart HB wire has excellent wetting characteristics, which leads to a smooth tie-in. This type of wire has many applications. It can be used on very thin sheet metal, for automotive repairs, pipes, shaft build up, and much more. The variety of uses for this wire make it a popular welding wire. This wire is quite versatile with welding speeds, and is an excellent candidate for machines with very slow to moderately fast feeding speeds. This is also classified as an ER70S-6 wire, which means it can be used on less than perfect surfaces. Oil or scale on the surface of the metal are no problem for this type of wire.
